CHESTERFIELD GREYHOUND STADIUM
This site is not an official website for the track shown here and is neither approved or endorsed by the stadium. I am indebted to Richard English for helping to construct this page. |
The greyhound track at the Nottinghamshire town of Chesterfield was located on the outskirts of Chesterfield in Brimington at 1° 24' W 53° 15' N and operated as an independent track outside the NGRC rules. The track first opened its gates in 1939 and had a circumference of 372 metres. It ran sprints over 265 metres, standard races over 460 metres, distance races over 648 metres, and marathon races over 740 metres. Such was the popularity of the venue that it was able to operate 3 nights each wekk on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. |
The track finally closed in 1997. |
I am grateful to Jon Seddon for the following link to a map showing the whereabouts of the old track |
This section gives a comprehensive picture of
the badges produced by the track throughout the ages, but only provides the briefest of
glimpses of its history. For those wishing to undertake further research we can recommend
a visit to http://astore.amazon.co.uk/wwwgreyhoundd-21 where further reading can be undertaken. |
